Padded Shoulder Strap Length

Fluffy moms tend to have an problem finding a SSC (soft-structured carrier) that doesn't rub them the wrong way under the arms.  That pesky webbing can get in the way and make wearing uncomfortable.  ( On the inverse, if a mom or dad is petite, the padding can get in the way of cinching the straps enough for the fit to be comfortable as well (ie having too much slack in the straps).)

So, while there are some great SSC comparison charts out there, none seem to have a column for the length of padding on shoulder straps.  So far here are my findings (in inches):

KP Std/Plus - 25" ~ I know her website says 24", but to the very end it is 25"
DC Neo 18" Original Plus - 20" ~ but the straps are curved and I feel that makes a difference
Ergo Original - 20" + 3.5" at the end of the strap that is just fabric and not padding
Boba 3G - 15" to the first strap adjuster + 5" of fabric before the webbing
Boba 2G - 15.5" + 1.5" of fabric at the end
Beco Butterfly 2 - 22" ~ Having tried a BB2 I am not sure I would say that it would really be that much because I found that the strap bunched because of all the connections/clips
BabyHawk OhShap! - 20"

Woven Wrap Brands

Ever wonder if there are more wraps than just Didymos?  Want to branch or or just want to know where the heck to look for woven wraps?  I have been working on compiling a list of wrap brands and here is what I've got.  Most are considered German style woven wraps, but Wrapsody offers gauze wraps as well a stretchy hybrid.  Don't see your favorite listed, please let me know and I will add it!  (Not all the links are working at the moment, not sure why...)

Mermaid Cove - Wefts

Ever since Johna, the mom behind Boutique Bella Bambini and EarthyBliss, posted her vision for a wrap called Mermaid Cove, I fell in love.  The colors speak to me and so does the name.  (Yes, Ariel is my favorite Disney Princess.)

Because I have a difficult time visualizing the wefts, I decided to try and do some mock ups.  Johna stated that the wrap would be woven in 4 wefts the same colors that are on the wrap, a light and dark teal, and a light and dark purple.

The Original:

Hopefully this will help you visualize the wraps better.  I think I am gonna go for the dark teal, those who know me won't be surprised ;).

To Do List

I am such a horrible blogger.  It was part of my New Year's resolution to do a weekly blog here and I have failed miserably.  Hopefully it will get better.  I am going to start doing reviews on different carriers for my BI exams and will include those here.  Also, there are some great spreadsheets comparing different SSCs out there, but they all fail to included how far the padding goes.  For moms on either end of the spectrum, petite or plus, this is important because it can make or break a carrier.  So since I have access to many SSCs I am going to try and compile my own spreadsheet with these numbers included.  I am a working mom, and am slow to boot, so please be patient with me, but these are some things I will be working on.

Peace, Love, and Babywear! xoxo
